Conquer the hills around Bamberg on your road bike
Do you and your group want to glide gently through idyllic valleys, test your mettle on steep gradients, or log training miles?
The height profile, the maximum gradient and the length of the tour I plan for you will reflect your priorities perfectly. Your road bike tour of the Bamberg region will almost fully be on minor roads with low traffic levels, and as you move through changing landscapes you will be struck, again and again, by the views on offer.
I am not only intimately familiar with the most challenging and the most scenic routes in the Frankenjura area — I also know what epoch of art history can be found after the last switchback at the end of each winding road.
You'd like more than a hint of culture? Palaces, castles, basilicas, or monasteries can be included on the route. Or indeed all of them, as in the following tour:
From the Hassberge mountains to God's Garden
— A road bike tour through varied Franconian landscapes to Vierzehnheiligen, Banz and Sesslach (120 km)
- Start from your hotel
- Along idyllic streams through the Hassberge hills
- Over the panoramic heights of the Frankenjura
- Your next destination can now be seen from the valley floor
- A stiff climb takes us right past the baroque basilica of Vierzehnheiligen, a place of pilgrimage, on this ride of superlatives with architecture to match
- Pause for sightseeing, if the group is interested
- The Baroque meets beer: Break for refreshments in the shade of a brewery beer garden with a view of Banz monastery and the basilica of Vierzehnheiligen, or in an rustic pub
- Short tour of Sesslach town by bike included.
| Duration: | 7 hours (including stops for explanations and breaks for refreshments) |
